The Necessity For Dam

As a small rural community, we have launched a people-led project for construction of a dam, called Sarab-e-Tabqoos Dam (SeTD), for water storage, production of electricity, protection of the environment and greening of the area for attraction of the visitors and tourists. The dam is constructed in Sarab-e-Tabqoos Village (SeTV), an isolated and poor village of Jaghori District, in Ghazni province of Afghanistan.

Project Plan

Construction Phases

In a situation that the rural community in the isolated village of Jaghori district of Ghazni province in Afghanistan suffer from a severe poverty and while a long-lasting drought has intensified the problems, our people have initiated to launch the SeTD construction project as a response to alleviate the situation. This SeTD construction project, which is unique and unprecedented in its kind, is a big and very fruitful community-led project. The project is completed in three critical phases as follows:

  • First phase – feasibility study: the preliminary and final feasibility studies, have been already conducted by different professional and well-experienced experts and engineers.
  • Second phase – construction of dam: The construction phase has begun according to the technical survey/feasibility study and the given plan. It has been projected to be completed within around 5 to 6 months.
  • Third phase – utilization and maintenance: This phase will start after the second phase is completed.

Financial Cost & Transparency

The estimated construction cost or the cost for building the SeTD will be about USD120,000.

As the project is a community-led dam construction project, it has been arranged to be financed from the grants and financial support of the individuals, charity and other donors as the government and the NGOs do not fund it.

To ensure transparency in receiving and transferring the funds/grants/money and to make sure the funds/donations are used efficiently and properly, a clear mechanism is in place and a financial committee has been assigned to deal with the financial matters and to report it regularly in both face-to-face meetings in Kabul and Jaghori and also through on-line meetings and community groups based on the bills, invoices, receipts and the petty cash usage forms.

We are seeking your kind financial support and would sincerely appreciate your donation for helping the poor rural population who struggle for their basic livelihoods and for paying the education costs of their students, in particular the girls, through agricultural activities. The dam construction has already began. Any cent donated and provided for our community will be transparently spent, solely, for the construction of the dam, with the regular reporting, proper financial mechanism, the videos to show the proof and the work progress.

Water Storage Capacity

Based on the feasibility study that has been conducted by the professional and well-experienced experts and engineers and according to their construction scheme/plan, the SeTD’s wall will be about 50 meters in width, at least 25 meters in height and will be more than 120 meters long.

The space for water storage will be at least 120 meters in width and around 400 to 500 hundred meters lengthy. The approximate capacity for water storage will be about three hundred thousand cubic meters of water.

Objectives & Benefits

SeTD will benefit to SeTV, its neighboring villages and rural areas and a significant area and rural population of Jaghori. Between three to five thousand families and more than fifteen to twenty five thousands of people will somehow, directly or indirectly, benefit from the project.

Your donation will cause to reduce the shortage of water and will improve the rural economy. Your financial support will also prevent flow of people from the villages to the hugely-crowded big cities. It will make difference for our community as it will prevent the students from abandoning the schools and universities because of the severe poverty and economic problems due to drought and shortage of water.

About Sarab Tabqoos

The creativity of a worthiness , innovation ,culture and civilization centre SARAB and TABQOS village from the deep end of discouragements . It’s been a life time having this dust of homelessness and displacement sitting on our tired faces heavily ; seeing ourselves in such a world of uncertainty being lost in the deep end of a dead Sea to be alienated , getting closer to and absorbed like a droplet of rain in the vast sea of well known strangest world of uncertainty .

We have been and we are going through a hill of a lot hardships over decades ; some got killed and slaughtered; some had to leave everything to be alive and brought up to start up new live from scratch repeatedly. some went to east and some gone to west to be migrated because of this centuries of corruption, fascism and the most unbelievable way of discrimination for our ethnicity as Hazara being minorities. Yes , we are who we are ; we are Hazara , heading towards all walks of life in thousands of ways ; thousands of losses and thousands ways of uncertainties ! We are like this birds without wings ; thousands of times within thousands of hopes and eagerness made settlements to be part this colourful world within our colours but never seen ourselves to be seen as such unfortunately and it really seems we are mistakenly born to be hated and thrown away perhaps ; or God may not wanted us to born and be Hazara ; believers ; believing in God or in fact God may not like us to be Hazara.

What can possibly be done for the sake of GOD for our livelihood In this world of uncertainties and the desert of misery then? The only way that must be said is to rely on the heart ; the love and the type of live that exist for ever ; the love that we born and raised with in the warmth arm of a mother and under big shadows of a father ; the special kind of father who also raised us with love , in their lifetime by punctualities and capabilities . This credibility kind of love is going to be our first and last kind of love that follow us like a shadow wherever we go .

However we lost many characters over this lifetime in decades but our only way for us is to stick together with this love and patience to curry on our well beings , respects and humanities. Our original Identity ٫ our belongings, individuality are the beauty of this little world as we believe in order to make a difference and for us to be together with this positive attitude and mindset as Hazara minority .
